About the brand

The Pulteney Distillery is a malt whisky production and aging facility in the Pulteneytown area of Wick, Caithness, in the Highland area of Scotland. The distillery produces the Old Pulteney single malt whisky at a number of ages and has a visitor centre in Huddart Street. With traditional warehouses exposed to the invigorating sea air blowing in off the North Sea, Old Pulteney captures the taste of the sea in every drop of its liquid gold. From subtle coastal chords to more defined salty notes, the flavour of our whiskies says much about the role and influence of our home. This has a brilliant nose - it's woody and zesty with sea notes. The grain malt is unquestionably present yet it's enveloped by oak. There is a tad of smell with a trace of peanuts/nut shells. Maybe only a bit of vanilla. I can taste the exemplary Pulteney flavor it's salty - the whisp of smoke isn't generally here in the more seasoned bourbon yet the additional wood in the wrap compensates for it - this is a fiery bourbon the zest is somewhere close to cinnamon and dark pepper-sort of a blend between the two however with the more keen edges documented off. It's extremely charming it leaves a long hot woody yet natural completion. The mouth feel is sleek however it's practically similar to it has a couple of layers - a more slender malty side that blurs into an oilier woodier progressively beach front side.
