Based in the iconic town of Tequila in Jalisco, Mexico, Fortaleza, otherwise known as Los Abuelos outside the US, has become a leader in providing the highest quality tequila. Created using traditional processing established in Mexico over 125 years ago, Fortaleza Reposado Tequila is derived from 100% blue agave that is carefully hand-harvested after maturing for 6 months. The fruits are then roasted in brick ovens for 3 days and macerated using a 2-ton tahona wheel made of volcanic rock. The resulting mash is fermented in open-air wooden tanks for 3.5 days. Double-distilled in copper pots, this delicately spicy tequila is rested for a minimum of 6 months in re-chipped/re-charred American oak ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at 40% ABV. Fortaleza Reposado tequila is presented in a hand-blown glass bottle filled onsite at the Fortaleza distillery and offers a nose thick with agave, herbs, and citrus caramel candies. About the brand

Founded on a long history of masterful tequila making going back as far as 1873, Tequila Fortaleza was launched in 2005 and has quickly become a highly celebrated brand of authentic Mexican tequila. Founding forefather Don Cenobio, great-great-grandfather to owner Guillermo Sauza, was the first person to ever export mezcal from Mexico to the US. Carrying on this legacy of tradition, taste, and quality, Fortaleza has continued to produce fine tequila in the family's 100 year old distillery, named La Fortaleza - or Fortitude. The tequila is crafted using traditional methods, with small brick ovens to cook the aged agave and an ancient tahona wheel made of volcanic rock to crush and squeeze out the macerated fruit juices. Fortaleza tequila is made from 100% agave grown in Jalisco Mexico, matured for at least 8 years before being selected and harvested. Aged in American oak barrels for anywhere from 7 months to 2 years, each varietal of Fortaleza is carefully curated before being bottled in limited quantities. Most spirits over the years I've found that people have a tendency to over embellish it's reputation. I can say with a clear mind, this isn't the case with Fortaleza! Very pleasant notes, perfect balance of all natural ingredients. Even though it's a bit over priced I'd buy it again. Hopefully the price comes down so I can purchase several bottles to store for a rainy day.
